Bi’ur (Hebr. for commentary, exegesis) is the usual name for the first modern Hebrew commentary on the Pentateuch, whose lead co-author and editor was the most important exponent of the Berlin Haskalah, the German Jewish philosopher Moses Mendelssohn (1729–1786).
