Bozcaada (Gk. Tenedos), the former Leycophrys, is a 39 square-kilometre Turkish island in the northeast Aegean Sea, just off the west coast of Turkey, about 19 kilometres (12 miles) south of the strait of Çanakkale. It is referred to as “the key to the Dardanelles” because of its strategic location.
